INTERCESSORS FOR AMERICA Nationwide Call to Pre-Election Prayer & Fasting October 25, 2002 WASHINGTON, DC-BASED PRAYER MINISTRIES SET OCT 27 - NOV 5 PRAYER VIGIL Sensing the critical nature of the hour, the leadership of Intercessors for America, Men for Nations, The National Prayer Center, The Capitol Hill Prayer Alert, Capitol Hill Prayer Partners, and the US/DC Prayer Watch are calling their constituencies and all concerned Christians to unite in concerted prayer and fasting as they are directed through Election Day, November 5. U.S. voters will elect an entire House of Representatives including Delegates from U.S. Territories, one third of the Senate, 36 Governors and scores of local and state officials. Political observers report grueling campaigns and polls show that many races are too close to call. The make-up of the new 108th Congress is hanging in the balance. An IFA listing of Key Races - Election 2002 is attached, and is also available for easy print-out on the Current Prayer Guides page at www.ifapray.org . Background on pro-life an d Christian candidates can be found at www.electionfund.org . While recognizing our great need for national repentance, let us begin with individual repentance, and supplication that the Lord would show mercy. Prayerfully proclaim and affirm the Sovereign Lordship and finished redemptive work of Christ from Colossians 1:12-20, 2:15 and Revelation 1:5, 17:14. PRAYER FOCUS In addition to key election campaigns, prayer should also center on repentance and revival in the Church, the sanctity of human life, securing a congressional ban on partial-birth abortion and the cloning of human beings, religious freedom, racism (in particular the rising anti-Semitism toward the Jewish people), the continuing global war on terrorism, pending military action in Iraq, the Bush Administrations stance toward Israel and Jerusalem, wisdom in foreign policy toward the axis of evil nations - Iran, Iraq and North Korea. Interceding in accord with the Lords revealed will for the establishment of good government (1 Timothy 2:1-4), the following prayer expressions are being encouraged: CONCERTED INTERCESSION Recognizing Gods promise that the effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man or woman avails much (James 5:16), individuals, prayer partners, prayer triplets, churches and families are encouraged to stand watch and pray and fast as the Lord directs either individually or corporately in prayer meetings, during church services and in prayer assemblies. 24-HOUR PRAYER AND NIGHT WATCHES Churches, prayer groups and networks are encouraged to mount 24-hour prayer and to schedule hour-by-hour night watches, with individuals signing up with a coordinator to fill as many hours as possible. To maintain momentum from Sunday morning congregational prayer, it is critical that afternoon and night watches be started Sunday, October 27. You are invited to join the ongoing nationwide 24-hour US/DC Prayer Watch; e-mail USDCWatch@aol.com or call 1-800-USA-PRAY and you will be sent a complimentary packet of prayer materials.
